About This Project

Custom WordPress Website

Website Design & Ongoing Support

Bad Company Gym is a well-known martial arts and fitness gym based in Leeds, offering boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and strength training. I first began working with Bad Company after their website was hacked, helping them recover and secure it. Following this, they wanted a fresh, modern site that reflected their strong reputation, showcased their classes, and made it easier for new members to join.

Background, Goals & Objectives

I’ve had the privilege of working with Bad Company Gym—one of the UK’s most respected Muay Thai boxing gyms based in Leeds—for over a decade. Throughout this long-standing partnership, I’ve designed and redeveloped their website multiple times to keep it aligned with evolving design trends, mobile responsiveness, and user expectations.

The current site, built on WordPress, highlights their classes, coaching team, and facilities with a clean, intuitive layout. During development, I implemented foundational SEO best practices, which have significantly improved their visibility in local and national searches.

My ongoing involvement includes regular updates, hosting management, and proactive support to ensure the site remains fast, secure, and easy to maintain. This trusted collaboration has helped the gym grow its online presence while maintaining a strong brand identity within the martial arts community.

With the new website build the objectives included:

  • Replace an outdated website with a professional, modern design.
  • Improve usability on mobile and tablets for gym members on the go.
  • Showcase class schedules, coaches, and facilities clearly.
  • Increase enquiries and class sign-ups through clear calls-to-action.
  • Optimise the site for local SEO to attract new members in Leeds.

Design Process

With the new website build the objectives included:

  • Branding & Style: Client wanted muted monochrome colours and with impactful typography to reflect the gym’s character.
  • Wireframing: Created initial layouts in Elementor to establish hierarchy and user flow.
  • Imagery: Used authentic gym photography to give visitors a sense of the environment.
  • Responsive First: Designed layouts for mobile and tablet before refining desktop to ensure seamless usability across devices.

Key Features

  • Responsive Design: Ensures seamless user experience across all devices.
  • SEO Optimisation: Improved search engine visibility, driving increased traffic using WordPress and Yoast SEO.
  • User-Friendly Navigation: Simplified access to class schedules, instructor profiles, and contact information.
  • Regular Updates: Continuous enhancements to maintain modern aesthetics and functionality.

“Working with Abi on our new website has been fantastic. They completely transformed our online presence, making the site modern, easy to navigate, and mobile-friendly. The design really captures the energy of our gym and makes it simple for new members to find information and sign up for classes.
